ALL OF THE FINGER CHEESE!!
Check out the skank on this!
This well-gigged, well-worn Takamine came into the workshop for some much-needed love. The customer was getting buzzing in a few places, and it didn’t take long to track down the cause — the frets had literally been played down to the fretboard!
So, time to get stuck in.
First, I scraped all the grime and years of accumulated muck from the fretboard before pulling the old frets. Once they were out, there was even more grime hiding underneath, so the board got another good clean before being sanded, levelled and re-radiused.
With the fretboard nice and true, I fitted some fresh Jescar fret wire. The fret ends were then shaped and smoothed, followed by crowning and polishing to get everything playing nicely.
I also made and fitted a new bone nut before restringing the guitar and giving the setup a final tweak.
All done — this old Takamine has had a serious refresh and is ready to get back out there and earn some more battle scars.
